Below you will find a survey of hotels in La Champagne. One of my favourites is the Royal Champagne (****) because it not only serves marvellous food but also has the facilities to sit down after a meal and enjoy spectacular views over the Grand Cru vineyards. Breakfast is very ‘un French’ and very good. However, it is situated in the middle of no-where and a little on the expensive side (but offers value for money). In short perfect for a honeymoon.
When I am in Reims (with or without groups) I mostly sleep in the Hotel de la Paix (***). It is next to the Place d’ Erlon. For those who want to go to their hotel after a night of painting the town pink it is only a short walk. The la Paix features a small but pretty indoor swimming pool, which comes in handy if the kids are with you. You pay for the room, not per person. If there are no vacancies in de la Paix I sometimes book the Porte de Mars. A slightly longer walk to a slightly simpler hotel but still fairly close to where it all happens.
Because in the mean time I got to know a few people in the Champagne region with whom I go for supper in the evening I keep things simple now and again and book a bed in a one star hotel. Considering the few hours I spend there I find nothing wrong with that.
It is even cheaper to book a room in one of the ‘gites’ or with a private person.
